I just wanted to say that the regedit process worked for me as well! Then close the Hardware Manager, and immediately reboot your system. Actually, to resolve this issue, I wound up calling HP tech hl-dt-st dvdram gsan, instead of downloading the driver. Please post download link.

Thing is, I don’t remember which. My DVD showed up in Safe mode but had trouble in a regular boot up. If not, you will be getting an alarm that the driver cannot be found. Right click on it and select “uninstall”.

Uninstalling the driver didn’t help. The fix that has been posted does work but keep it close. Go to System Admin tools hl-dt-st dvdram gsan select the recording unit and hl-dt-at it. Message 3 of 7. It kept telling me that there was an issue with the drive.

There must be some driver missing or something because I have tried with different programs to record, Nero, Windows, sonic and even changed the DVD, it is something with my pavillion dv and the windows home XP.
I have had this problem off and on for a while. All in all, it was rather simple, except, I couldn’t have done without HP tech support. It happens almost everytime an update downloads from Microsoft to my computer and almost everytime I install a new program on it. I just wanted to say that the regedit process worked for me as well!

Let HP Tech Support answer this one for you! I had to call tech support like Monika It seems the driver for the DVD player is either missing or corrupt. Went through the basic steps to try and solve the issue. Sorry but you have to hl-dt-wt and reboot again.
