FYI, I did it the same way as described in the first post of this thread. This fix works on SuSE 8.

It was just a typing error in my pefection post, I don’t even have a folder called “snapscan. Otherwise it may not work I mistakenly purchased an Epson USB scanner two months ago.

If so, you can now scan using XSane. You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. I obviously forgot to post my solution, probably because it seemed unrelated to the actual topic.

All we have to do is to prevent the USB port from being suspended once the scanner is used for the first time after scanner power-on. The time now is When booting Ubuntu after using Windows, the scanner is OK.

Checking the hardware may be the first thing to do, but I was completely misled by the behaviour of the epsoon working flawlessly in Ubuntu after having run Windows. You would like to liunx the. However, working with the root rights is not a good way to manage things; you will thus have to add all users that need access to the scanner to the scanner group: How do I get Ubuntu to find the downloaded files.
